The One With the Definition of Commitment
Don’t do things that don’t excite you; it's either a hell yeah or no.
Hi guys, and welcome back to yet another episode of Random Thoughts with Takura.
I was watching this Alex Hormozi video about the easiest business to start, and one of the points he made was, no matter what you are doing, if you are not able to commit to one idea, then you will likely not succeed. The definition of commitment is eliminating all alternatives, meaning that your ability to say no to distractions is the true measure of focus. So the only way to know if you are committed is to ask yourself, do you think of alternatives, do you believe your project is going to fail? If you commit yourself to one idea and promise yourself that there is no alternative, you will succeed. (guaranteed),
So I had to try it out.
On April 25, 2025, I entered monk mode and committed to thirty days of hardcore focus. No parties, no going out, no funny side shows, just me and one goal. And today marks the end of that monk mode period. It’s been a huge stretch of learning and growth. I genuinely can't believe the amount of skills that I unlocked in myself. At the very least it brought me the much-needed clarity about my life. Here is the thing: it's always either a hell yeah or no. If you have an idea and you are not saying hell yeah then don’t do it. This simply means if you are not very very excited about something , it's probably not worth your time.
So anyway, what was I working on and what did I learn during this period? I am proud to announce that The Cubicle Africa officially has a website now and it is not just a website it is a software as a service platform. Please visit thecubicleafrica.com to sign up and see what I have been cooking. I have transferred all of our opportunities to this site. I will still have the WhatsApp group for community building and direct access with me, but the website is where people will find every listing.
The most impressive part is how I managed to turn this platform into your opportunities assistant so it will send you messages when deadlines are due and count down to keep you on track so you never miss an opportunity. On the back end, I built an admin dashboard where I can see how many users are on the platform, what they are doing, which opportunities they are applying for and even when they last used the app. I am amazed that technology has advanced enough for me to build this on my own. I remember when I was in high school, I paid someone 400 USD to do what I just did by myself. The reason why I was able to do this by myself was AI.
It is also a bittersweet story since I am studying software engineering and I just witnessed firsthand how everything I studied was completely disrupted by AI. With a few prompts, people can not only do what took me three years to learn; but they can even do it even better and faster. But as usual, most people won't learn how to do this by themselves, so it still creates an opportunity for those people who will go the extra mile to learn how to use AI. I am proud to say in this process of learning , I accidentally created a system for launching startups over a weekend. When I was building the cubicle, I documented every step , every decision I made. So when I finished, I realised I had a blueprint to get any idea of a functional startup in one day. I taught it to three people just to see if I was onto something, and I can tell you that this is the craziest thing that has happened so far. All those 3 people could not believe what they had just done. It looked like I had just changed their lives.
So now I am in a very confused position. I am asking myself , so what do I do with all of this information? Do I keep it to myself? Do I create a course? What exactly do I do? Because the course option seems like the best way to share it, but do I want to be that guy? At the same time, if people knew what I know, it would astronomically change their lives. It's like a knowledge curse. But to put it in clear terms, just visit thecubicleafrica.com and test everything. When you see what's there , just know we can do the same for you in 1 day.
Speaking of free content, my monk mode was sponsored by Iman Gadzhi. I got access to one of his courses - the Digital Launchpad. The idea behind this course is to teach people how to make their first money on the internet. I think the opposite intended effect actually happened , I used to believe in him completely but after doing the course I had mixed feelings. Don’t get me wrong , his attention to detail and his focus on quality is insane and he even inspired me. However , the reason I feel uneasy is that none of the programs in this Digital Launchpad are taught by him. I think most people join because they want to be like him but if he does not share his secrets that feels a bit disingenuous. Not to say the instructors were terrible, but if you market it as your course you should be in there teaching.
The most interesting course was Jordan Welch with his drop shipping. I was actually shocked that it was actually him, for the full dropshipping course. So since part of monk mode was learning , taking notes and practising what we were being taught in the digital launchpad. I did so on the saas course , the copywriting course , the sales course and finally the jordan welch course. I got my most value when he started explaining how to run Facebook ads. I was shocked or impressed , because I don't know how manyth times I have discovered that I was doing the wrong thing again. I immediately tried his strategy with socks and I got the lowest cost per purchase ever. It was costing me two cents to get someone to click the link and sixteen cents to get a message and since the messages are now optimized to WhatsApp that means I also got the person’s phone number which I can use for future marketing. Before this it was costing me around one dollar to get a single message so monk mode significantly improved my ad performance. I have never been this confident in running ads and the whole marketing bit. So in thirty days , I learnt how to create an offer , create a business to distribute that offer , and how to market to generate leads to sell that offer to. And I documented everything , tested it with different people , and can verify that it's replicable. The question is what next.
It was not all good news in monk mode. I started my capstone project and as each day went by my idea felt less and less innovative. My supervisor has thousands of comments and he is always on my case because we are not progressing on time. So in a period when I thought we’d have a break, and just be chilling this capstone has been draining me. It feels even worse because it came right after the marketing exam season, which was its own challenge. I guess we will talk about those exams in their own blog.
On a completely separate note, remember I was supposed to get an update about the hot dog stand from the school in May. It is May and the update came but it was very vague and offered no way forward. What is clear is they did not give us permission to move forward with our smokes. It has been half a year and I have done everything I can to get that approval. I guess it is time to accept sunk costs. This means out of the nine goals I set for myself one has clearly failed but not to worry the remaining eight are still coming in strong. I think with the focus I gained from monk mode and the new skills I learned, I will be able to scale those eight goals until success is undeniable.
Besides that nothing else much If you got anything from this blog, visit thecubicleafrica.com
